The Challenge of Childhood Anxiety
March 1, 2016Music is an integral part of our lives, our cultures and our world since our first cry; they say that music is the universal language. “Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand.” – Stevie Wonder
Music is a common connection we share regardless of race or background. A good tune or melody is something that everyone can enjoy and understand.
Music is everywhere, in our cars, our homes, played while we work/play or enjoyed while attending a concert, symphony or movie. Music helps create moods to tell us a story; it can lift us up or even bring us down.
Music can be played at any occasion and can vary from creating feelings of romance to instilling bravery to leading battles. “Ah music,” he said, wiping his eyes, “a magic beyond all we do here!” –J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Music is an important component of our program which helps the children to establish routine, build literacy skills and calm their little minds and bodies for rest, we are proud to include the magic of music as part of the wonder of Wee College.
Several studies have shown that music education at an early age stimulates the child’s brain in a number of ways which help to improve communication, verbal and visual skills. Even children as young as one year of age can actively participate and fully enjoy interactive music classes with benefits ranging from having a greater capacity to communicate, smiling more frequently and showing greater signs of sophisticated brain responses to music.
Furthermore, a study which looked at three to four year olds who were involved in a one month musical training program which included training in rhythm, pitch, melody and basic musical concepts, resulted in an enhanced ability to understand words and explain their meaning.
For these reasons and more the Wee College is delighted and committed to partner with the talented teachers from Music for Young Children to allow the many benefits which the joy of music offers. Music for Young Children provides quality music education for young children by blending the pleasure and the joy of music making with sound instruction.
Walking throughout the halls of Wee College you are captured by the wondrous world of children’s voices in song,
the rhythm of their movements and joys of their laughter.
