A Franchisee Story- Ashley & Steven Whelton
I have been an active member of the Early Learning Industry in the province of New Brunswick since 2006. My work experience includes development and rollout of the NB Curriculum Framework, instructing at postsecondary levels, teaching at early learning and childcare centers across Eastern Canada, and cultivating best practices in Nunavik for over two years. My passion for early education and providing quality childcare has always been a priority for me.
My first introduction to Wee College was in 2013 when our family moved to Moncton NB. I had struggled for months to locate what I felt was quality care for our two daughters, Maddison and Morghan. One frantic day, after registering my girls at Evergreen Park Elementary, I stumbled upon Wee College Evergreen Campus and owner, Michelle Talbot. I instantly felt a connection to Wee College’s philosophy, their guiding principles, and their fundamentals on healthy, confident and positive kids. So much so that I began a position with them as a director of school age programs.
Following our move to Fredericton, and the birth of our son Blake, my husband Steven and I found that not only are spaces for infants and toddlers lacking in the area, but also the quality of early learning we enjoyed with our earlier Wee College experience. This discovery presented an opportunity to open my own childcare facility, using a proven and much respected model, Wee College. From the moment I met Melody Munro and the rest of the Wee College family I have always felt at home. I have seen firsthand the quality provided, to not only my own children, but every child and family who enters any campus. How fitting that I am coming full circle back to the professional family I left when I moved from Moncton.
My husband, Steven is a well-known professional chartered accountant in Fredericton, with 14 years of experience in public practice. After 9 years at a national accounting firm, Steven decided to make the move to Teed Saunders Doyle in 2016. Steven’s experience is well diversified in audit, tax and assurance engagements making him valuable advisor and partner in our business.
Our family is most important to us, but we are also committed to our community. With my passion and love of teaching, along with Steven’s financial background, we are ready to open our campus doors to Fredericton and grow the Wee College franchise.
