May 20, 2021Happy Halloween!!!
Halloween trick or treating will go ahead in our community streets this year with excitement on the children’s part and perhaps a little apprehension on the parent’s side.
Not all homes will be participating in passing out treats to children. This can be politely communicated with porch lights turned off after dark. Prior this, place a sign on your front door “Have a Happy and Safe Halloween: No Visitors Please”
For those who plan to hand out treats, keep the following in mind:
- Sanitize your hands between visitors
- Wear a community mask
- Keep high-touch areas such as doorbells and railings clean
- Do not offer home-made treats
- Do not permit children to take candy from a bowl of treats unless the treats are arranged so that children will not come in contact with other treats when they grab theirs.
- Consider offering non-food treats like stickers or coloured pencils.
Parents, your children can participate safely combining the typical safety precautions and the new. Keep in mind:
- An adult should be present to supervise children who go out trick-or-treating.
- If older children must go out without an adult, plan in advance the specific route they will follow and what time they must return by.
- Public health advises that trick-or-treaters should wash their hands before heading out and upon returning home.
- Try to limit trick-or-treating to one neighbourhood only and keep track of where you go.
- Maintain physical distancing when possible
- Wear a community mask
