New Brunswick Child Care Subsidies

Do you know, Wee College Campuses are designated New Brunswick Early Learning Centres?

Do you know Wee College families may be eligible to receive a subsidy from the NB Provincial Government under the Daycare Assistance Program or under the Designated Centre- Parent Subsidy?

Under the province of New Brunswick there are two subsidy programs available to working families; the Designated Centre –Parent Subsidy, available for children under the age of five and the Daycare Assistance Program, for children attending school. As designated centres, all Wee College families have access to both programs.

We encourage all families to visit the Early Learning Parent Portal, https://www.nbed.nb.ca/parentportal/en/ and see if your family qualifies for a subsidy.

Once in the parent portal, register for an account to access the subsidy calculators and application forms for both programs.

The Daycare Assistance Program

Daycare assistance program is designed to help families access financially affordable, quality child care at an approved child daycare facility. The program is offered by the Department of Social Development.

The program doesn’t cover the full daycare cost. The parent is responsible for paying any difference between the actual daycare cost charged by the Early Learning and Childcare Centre and the subsidy amount approved.

Please note:
– Parents/guardians who have a preschool-aged child AND a school-aged child registered in a designated New Brunswick Early Learning Centre might be eligible for the Designated Centre—Parent Subsidy Program for the preschool-aged child and for the Daycare Assistance Program for the school-aged child.

There are certain conditions that will be considered when your application is reviewed. If you are working, attending school or a training program, undergoing medical treatments or have received a referral from a recognized referral source for your child to attend an approved daycare, you may be eligible. You must call your regional Social Development office to confirm your eligibility.

To see how much you may be eligible to receive, please review the Day Care Assistance Rate Table for Licensed Care

*If you are considered a high school student, you may be eligible to receive a higher childcare subsidy rate of $27.00 per day for full-time childcare or $13.50 per day for part-time childcare. This benefit is not income tested, however proof of enrollment in the training program is required and you must have access to an approved child daycare facility.

The Designated Centre

Parent Subsidy program provides financial support to low and middle income families and is based on a sliding scale (between $37,501 and $80,000) which considers child care fees, the number of children under the age of five not attending school and the total annual gross household income.

Families with a total annual gross income of $37,500 or less will have access to free early learning and child care services at a designated New Brunswick Early Learning Centre. Those with multiple preschool children under the age of five will not pay more than 20% of their gross household annual income on childcare.

Families are eligible for the Designated Centre – Parent Subsidy program if:

  • They have at least one preschool-aged child who is not in school and who is registered in a designated New Brunswick Early Learning Centre; and
  • They are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident; and
  • They are a resident of New Brunswick; and
  • Their gross annual household income (before deductions) is $80,000 or less; OR
  • Their expenses for child care services are more than 20% of the gross annual household income (before deductions).

The Designated Centre – Parent Subsidy is based on a sliding scale between $37,501 to $80,000, which considers the child care fees, the number of children under the age of five not attending school and the total annual gross household income.

Families using after-school child care provided in a designated centre and child care services provided by non-designated centres will continue to access the Daycare Assistance Program. Applications must be submitted to the Department of Social Development.
